Leadership Test Drive...
On Monday, we decided to go on an adventure. Around 4 PM, on a whim, I decided to see if we could test drive the Tesla Cybertruck. Within minutes, I had locked in a 4:30 PM appointment, and soon our three boys and Alexa’s boyfriend piled into the car. We were all buzzing with excitement and wondered if we would be able to take it out on our own.
We pulled in a few minutes late, expecting paperwork or at least a sales pitch.
Nope. Instead, after a quick set of instructions, they handed over the keys—or rather, the card—and sent us on our way.
The first thing I tested was the legendary 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.6 seconds. Let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint. The boys’ laughter turned into wide-eyed smiles as we felt the pure power of the Cybertruck. For the next 30 minutes, we tried everything and enjoyed fast takeoff, smooth handling, a bumpin’ stereo and even the auto-drive feature. Riding along while the truck changed lanes, signaled, exited the highway, and nearly park itself was surreal.
It was amazing!
Also, I want one ?!
As much fun as we had, I realized something important: no matter how smart or autonomous the truck was, I still had to take control to park it in the right spot. That responsibility was mine.
Life works the same way. I’m responsible for where I end up. Even when I’m surrounded by good influences and heading in the right direction, I still need to take the wheel to ensure my own spiritual growth.
This Sunday, we’re diving into 1 Timothy 1:1–11, where Paul reminds Timothy of the first priority for every leader: to guard the gospel. In a world full of distractions, myths, and “different doctrines,” leaders must take responsibility to ensure the church stays on course.
Like driving the Cybertruck, we can’t just rely on autopilot. We need to stay engaged, make intentional decisions, and protect what’s most important.
The stakes, of course, are much higher than driving a shiny new truck. Guarding the gospel isn’t just about keeping it safe—it’s about ensuring its life-changing truth continues to guide and transform hearts. It’s about making sure we’re focused on the love that flows from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith.
So, whether you’re leading a church, a family, or trying to stay faithful in your own life, I hope you’ll join us this Sunday. Let’s explore together what it means to keep the main thing the main thing and to prioritize guarding the treasure God has entrusted to us.
Snow or shine, we will still have services at our normal location: 1717 McGee (next week, 1/12/25 we move to the Harlow) at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), if you don’t feel the roads are safe, pour a cup of coffee and watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am.
And if you get a chance once the weather clears up, I also highly recommend test-driving a Cybertruck. Just don’t let it distract you from your first priority! ?
