Road trip...

This past Sunday was a day of both heart and hustle as we took our oldest daughter to medical school in Orlando. The alarm went off and within a short time, we were walking out the door at 5 am, to start our cross-country trek. With coffee in hand, tears in our eyes, and excitement in our hearts, we set off for the next stage in Lexi’s life.
It was a long haul, and the clock had struck midnight by the time we rolled into town. Just in time to get some sleep before her first student orientation at 8:30 am the next morning.

Our trip was a mix of music, podcasts, and the comfort of familiar voices. Joining our New Life online community for church was certainly a highlight. It reminded me of how grateful I am for the many volunteers who make the livestream possible for those who can’t be there in person.

Between phone calls, Podcasts, some music, and of course Olympic events, we navigated our way toward Atlanta. The skies decided to add a bit of drama with a sudden downpour and an accident on the road. But surprisingly, it wasn’t nearly as bad as we had anticipated. We soldiered on, and with a bit of divine intervention and some solid windshield wipers, we made it through.

Taking a trip across the country isn’t as simple as hopping in the car and hitting the road. Oh no, this demands some serious planning. Alexa’s car had to be mechanically sound, which meant a thorough check-up, an oil change, and thankfully new windshield wipers. We mapped out our route, planned for gas stops, always hoping for a Quick Trip or Caseys, and always settling for something else.

Much of our trip went as planned, but there were plenty of moments where we had to make decisions on the fly. Do we reroute around that dreaded red line on Google Maps? Push for another 20 miles before stopping for gas? These impromptu decisions mirrored the daily choices we all have to make, sometimes with little notice.

Even if you’re not taking a cross-country trip anytime soon, life without planning can be chaotic. This Sunday, Will Boroughs will continue our series with a sermon entitled “Wisdom for Planning” from Proverbs 16. Nearly every day, we face decisions that require God’s guidance to choose wisely.

I sure hope to see you there at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or Facebook at 9:15 am. Additionally, we are also publishing our sermons on Spotify.. Whether you’re planning a road trip or just trying to navigate the every day, God’s wisdom is a guide we all need.
