Swish...

Monday’s warm weather meant one thing…driveway basketball. Our 2v2 games can get intense. Two hours straight, no breaks, just pure grit (and occasional wheezing). By the end, I was sore…but the good kind of sore, the kind that reminds you that you were moving around and breaking a sweat. Best of all? We won….I’ll let you guess who “we” is ?.

Now, I’d love to tell you we won because of my elite shooting skills, but let’s be honest…my three-point shot is about as reliable as a weather forecast in the Midwest. One minute it looks good, the next twenty minutes, it’s way off. If we want to win, we have to be smart: work the ball inside, take the layup, and trust my teammate. The side that passes and rebounds well and hustles almost always comes out on top.

This is a lot like what Paul is telling Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:11-16. Timothy was young, and people didn’t always take him seriously. But Paul tells him, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example…” In other words, stop worrying about what other people think, just be faithful and serve well.

And that’s our call too. Every member of the body of Christ should be a minister for the body of Christ. We don’t need a title or a microphone. We don’t have to be the most talented…or most experienced…or best prepared…we just have to show up, be faithful, and serve.

But let’s be honest, we each have battled excuses. I’m too young. Too old. Too busy. Too unqualified. It’s easy to get in our head and accept limitations.

But God’s calling isn’t based on our résumé, it’s based on His purpose. So, what are we waiting for? Let’s step up and serve.

This Sunday, we’ll unpack what it means to be a minister in the body of Christ and how we can move past the excuses. Like basketball, the goal isn’t flashy plays, it’s faithfulness. So let’s pass the ball, play smart, and step into the role God has given us. See you Sunday!
