Snap...

This past Saturday, my brother Todd, our middle son Isaiah, and I hit the Swope Park mountain bike trails, eager to conquer a new path. Everything was going great until I hit a steep climb and SNAP!

My bike chain broke.

Now, here’s the kicker: years ago, I learned my lesson and began packing a bike repair kit. But apparently, I forgot the one crucial thing, the actual chain links. Yep, no links. Just a sad little bag of tools and a big problem.

We scoured about 25 feet of the trail, hunting for a tiny half-inch link that could save my ride. Finally, Todd and Isaiah decided to bike back to get the car, while I planned to hike toward the road where they could pick me up. I was pretty bummed, but there really wasn’t any other option.

And then…. just as they turned around, I glanced down one last time…and there it was…a little glint in the sun, the missing link just waiting to be found. With teamwork and some elbow grease, we fixed the chain and rode all the way back without a hitch.

That tiny link saved the day, and it reminded me how critical it is to prepare for the unexpected. Life throws steep climbs and broken chains at us all the time.

Are we ready?

This Sunday, we close out our digital fast series with a message from 1 Peter 5:6-11 called “Determine: The Digital Rule of Life.”

Like a good repair kit for your bike, a digital rule of life is a practical, intentional tool that helps you organize your habits, set boundaries, and prepare your heart for the inevitable challenges life…and technology throws your way.

It’s not about adding legalistic rules or restrictions. Think of it more like a trellis for your soul, a structure that supports healthy growth and keeps you grounded amid all the noise and distraction.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your screen, tempted by endless scrolling, or just a little overwhelmed by all the digital noise, this message is for you.

I sure hope to see you at 1717 McGee…AND…the coffee shop is open! There will be free drip coffee like always, but now you can also upgrade to a fancy beverage. Services are at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am. Also, we would LOVE for you to follow us on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram. (Unless you are on a digital fast, of course ?).

Have a great weekend,
Troy
