Our Story

How it all started

We began services on April 8, 2007, but the idea for New Life CityChurch was birthed in the summer of 2006. Through much prayer and planning from our core team, we believed God would do exceedingly more than we could even imagine (Eph. 3:14-21).

At the time, Kansas City was launching a plan to attract new business, entertainment and residences for a growing population. Since then, the heart of the city has become an intersection for commerce, government, social services, entertainment and future planning.

We’ve always been a gritty church, with little money, a lot of heart and much prayer. God provided free space for us in our first year at 9th and Grand in the Scarritt Building. Then we met at 31st and Walnut in the Veterans Hall for another year while we worked to re-hab the 4th floor of the Corrigan Building, located at 18th and Walnut where we met for six years.

In 2025, we were blessed to finish the rehab of our building. What began years ago as a step of faith has now become a place we are grateful to call home. Through God’s provision and the faithful work of many hands, our building at 1717 McGee has been restored and prepared to serve our church family and the community for years to come.

Expanding the vision

Our God-given passion has been to walk out of the four walls and serve our city. We love to partner with churches and ministries and even businesses and city leaders to advance the Kingdom of Jesus.

New Lifers have launched ministries to address various social issues such as foster care and adoption, human trafficking, illiteracy, racial divides,  crime and fatherlessness. We long for peace and we work for justice, however we know that apart from the Gospel of Jesus, our efforts are temporary. As a city…country…world…we need Jesus!

Where we are headed

We are simple

At any service, you could sit next to someone who slept under a bridge or someone who slept in a Penthouse and anything in between. We know every person matters, not because of our bank accounts or addresses, but because we are made in the image of God.

We are local

Although we are not a part of a larger church or denomination, we are led by time-tested elders, deacons, ministry leaders and staff. We know God has called us to make disciples and develop leaders, knowing He can use anyone.

We are family

We value community above production. Our gifts are diverse and our experiences reflect different backgrounds, but we are locked in to our faith in Jesus and our passion to make Him known. If God could use five loaves and two fish, He can use our New Life family to change the world.
