Riding high...
This week, Pastor Jeff and I were back on set filming another episode of Church Improvement, our little behind-the-scenes show giving you updates and laughs from the auditorium remodel. Things have been moving along great, but we decided it was time to take the experience to new heights… literally.
So we climbed into the lift to give everyone a bird’s-eye view of the progress. Now, you’d think two pastors going up in a mechanical lift would be a simple operation…but you’d be wrong. While Jeff was focused on filming and staying professional, I was busy testing the limits of my driving skills. Let’s just say...there were a few near brushes with the ceiling, a minor collision with some lumber (no trees were harmed in the making of this video), and a moment where we questioned whether I had somehow switched the lift into “hovercraft mode.”
But what struck me most, aside from Jeff’s slight panic and the grateful prayers of both Jeff and I after we landed, was how different everything looked from up high.
A different perspective changes what you see.
Things that looked messy from the floor looked purposeful from above. What seemed chaotic was actually coming together.

And that got me thinking…
This Sunday, we’re getting a fresh look at Jesus in Mark 11 and Mark 14. From three key moments in His final days…His triumphal entry, the cleansing of the temple, and a beautiful moment of anointing at dinner, we gain three powerful perspectives:
Our Sovereign King, riding humbly on a donkey, yet worthy of our trust.
Our Righteous King, flipping tables in the temple, confronting corruption with holy authority.
Our Loving King, quietly receiving extravagant worship from a woman who knew who He truly was.
Each scene gives us a different vantage point. And taken together, they lift our eyes and hearts to see Jesus not just as a figure from history, but as the King we need today.
So, whether your week has felt like a construction zone, a spiritual traffic jam, or an unsteady ride in a lift, I sure hope to see you on Sunday. This is the last week at our temporary location at The Harlow Event Space, 1525 Grand Ave., Kansas City, MO, before Easter at the Austin. Our services are still at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am.
(And if you see Jeff, please reassure him the next lift ride is on him… I’m officially grounded ?)
See you Sunday!
Troy
