"CHIRPING"...
A few days ago, just as we were getting out of bed, the smoke alarm started to “CHIRP.”
Some of the kids were fighting off sickness and we wanted them to get as much sleep as possible, so I ran downstairs and found a brand new 9 Volt battery….what are the chances?
I took a barstool upstairs with me, pulled out the old battery, and replaced it with a new one.

And….
It kept “CHIRPING” …. In fact, I’m pretty sure it got louder and more frequent. As if to mock me….
And since the smoke alarm made it personal, I wasn’t playing games….
I put my Bible down (yes, I was having a quiet time with the Lord), picked up the barstool, and went back upstairs.
I wasn’t really upset, but I was certainly in a “taking care of business” mood, so I removed the smoke alarm, unplugged it and we put it in a drawer under some towels.
Take that!
Of course, this is one way to deal with “CHIRPING” but stuffing it in a drawer under towels is not how it’s meant to work.
Similarly, when our soul is “CHIRPING” for satisfaction, although we are manufactured to look to God for our contentment, too often we try to fix it by either getting more stuff to cover it up or we get all religious and make sacrifices to cover it up.
Neither works out well….but there is hope. This Sunday, I look forward to sharing a sermon from Philippians 4:11-13 about contentment. Contentment can be learned, and it can be achieved through Christ.
There is so much more for us to study, I really hope to see you on Sunday at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am, or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or Facebook at 9:15 am. Additionally, we are also publishing our sermons on Spotify.
Now to find that smoke alarm,
Troy
