Overcoming Pride: Lessons from Jonah’s Story...

How well do you like to admit you were wrong?

Yeah, me neither…what is it that makes this so difficult?

This afternoon I was working on some illustrations for Sunday and decided to enlist some help, so I texted Leigh-Ann…

“Can you think of any arguments that we’ve had where I ended up being wrong? Need it for an illustration…??? cuz I can’t ????”

To which Leigh-Ann replied,

“Bahahahahahahaa…Ummm all of them…Hahahahahaha”

And then to absolutely win the day replied, “I can’t-I keep short tabs sorry lol “

Well, after a bit more thought, I remembered a window in our kitchen that was accidently broken, and needed to be repaired.

After calling for some estimates from a glass company, I decided I could save $150 if I ordered the actual glass pane and installed it myself.

How hard could it be? Well, Leigh-Ann knows me pretty well and was pretty sure it would be hard…and it would be better to just pay to get it done right.

I measured it, ordered it and finally picked it up after a few weeks, excited to brag to the family how I had saved us $150. I took the old one out….so far so good. Then I placed the new double paned window in the frame and started to put the wedges that hold it back in one at a time.

This was much more difficult…I was still feeling good…I slowed down my pace and decided I could take plenty of time and it would still be worth it.

As I started to get the hang of it, I picked up the pace…..then faster than I could even process it, my tool somehow was at the wrong angle as I moved….CRACK…..my heart sank to my stomach leaving just enough room to eat crow (too much???).

Seriously, not only was it going to cost more to fix it right, I would have to admit to everyone…..I….was….wrong!
This Sunday, I am really excited to talk about someone else who was wrong as we continue our sermon series through Jonah. This week is from Jonah 3 where we read about how Jonah had to admit he was wrong and go back to Ninevah. There is plenty for us to apply as we seek to trust God even when it doesn’t make sense.

I sure hope to see you on Sunday at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or Facebook at 9:15 am. Additionally, we are also publishing our sermons on Spotify.

See you soon,
Troy
