Lost in the backyard...
A few days ago, I set out on one of my favorite weekend rituals—mowing the lawn. Now, I know mowing the lawn might seem like just another chore, but for me, it's a cherished time of reflection and satisfaction, capped off by a well-earned view of the freshly cut grass from my porch.
Armed with my earbuds and an inspiring podcast, I was ready to tackle the yard while soaking up some wisdom. Lately, I’ve been listening to Ask N.T. Wright Anything podcast, which has become my go-to companion for yard work.
Once I finished the front yard, it was Ian’s turn to mow the back. I slipped my earbuds into my pocket, gave him a few pointers, and then set off to tackle the weed-eating. But as I was wrapping up, I reached into my pocket to grab my earbuds and realized—there was a hole in my pocket. My heart sank as I pictured my earbuds lost in the thick grass.
At first, I was pretty frustrated. It might seem like a small thing, but losing earbuds felt like a major inconvenience. Then it occurred to me—why not pray about it? I figured I had nothing to lose and a little faith to gain, so I asked God to help me find them. I didn’t plan to make a big deal about it unless I actually found them.
So, I retraced my steps and scoured the grass like I was searching for a needle in a haystack. After several minutes of searching, just when I was about to give up, I spotted one of the earbuds!
That evening, I shared the story with my family. It wasn’t just about the earbuds; it was a chance to reflect on how even small acts of faith can be meaningful. Sometimes, stepping into the leader God made us to be starts with trusting Him in the little things.
This Sunday, as we dive into our sermon series on Peter’s leadership, I want to remind us that while Peter's leadership was marked by grand acts like raising the dead and standing up to the Sanhedrin, our journey can begin with small steps of faith. Whether it’s praying over lost earbuds or seeking guidance in daily tasks, these moments teach us to lead with the same faith and courage Peter showed.
I sure hope to see you on Sunday at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or Facebook at 9:15 am. Additionally, we are also publishing our sermons on Spotify.
As we explore Peter’s journey and leadership practices from Matthew 14:22-33 and several passages in Acts 1-15, remember that even the smallest acts of faith can lead to significant growth. And if you ever lose something important, don’t hesitate to pray—it just might lead to a small but meaningful victory.
Talk to you soon,
Troy
P.S. Everyone who considers New Life their church family is invited to our core conversation on Sunday from 12:30-2pm. We will eat together and talk about some of the significant happenings for the next several months including some updates on the building project. You can RSVP HERE.
