All Dads Can be Good

Good Dads Kansas City is committed to providing education and mentorship to men from all walks of life. The leadership strives to help all men seek a relationship with God which, in turn, strengthens their family relationships. The demographic of men that attend training sessions is diverse; however, each man has come away from the training with a new understanding or information that has positively impacted his family.  While research and studies provide useful data that can help people better understand themselves and their kids, it is the consistent teaching of the Word of God that is truly impacting these men’s lives and hearts.  We are excited to share with you some of what God has been doing!

Good Dads KC was hosting training sessions weekly at Lansing Correctional Facility which led to tangible changes for inmates and staff alike.  This particular training included 13 men who attended consistently each week, all of whom graduated at the end of January.  This regularity is so astounding because the trainings happened at a time when the inmates had free time and were able to choose from a number of activities. These men valued the education that they were receiving enough to prioritize it over everything else. While the training was for the inmates, they were not the only ones being reached.
At one session, the trainees were so engaged in a discussion that the prison guards were leaning in to glean knowledge about fostering healthy relationships within the family.
While Good Dads KC has had several trainings at prisons, the call to action is not contingent on a specific audience. The beauty of these training sessions is the diversity of men attending: from incarcerated and at-risk fathers to men with multiple degrees and white-collar jobs. Men from all walks of life need to learn the crucial skills of being men who follow God’s leading, in order to lead their own families and to be good dads.
A recent topic that transformed lives was on child development and understanding age-appropriate tasks around the home. A child’s needs as a teenager are vastly different from those of a 3-year-old. With this thought, it only makes sense that teaching tools and parenting styles would differ for kids of various ages. Many men provided feedback on how groundbreaking this understanding has been for their families. After this lesson, they asked that the notes be shared so they could continue learning and implementing at home.  Several men were shocked that they had never been taught this before, whether at school or home.

God desires all people to know him. Whether we are actively walking with him, behind bars, addicts, or white-collar workers - God’s love and mercy know no bounds.

The aim of Good Dads KC is to equip men with the knowledge to step up in their God-given role as fathers. Consider donating, praying, or getting involved in Good Dads to help all men in Kansas City become godly leaders in their homes, in our communities, and most importantly for the Kingdom.

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

2 Timothy 3:16-17
