Trapped...

Last night, when most of the world was asleep, Leigh-Ann had an unexpected encounter that left her heart pounding. She walked into our bathroom and was met with a sight that would send shivers down anyone’s spine—a large, brown spider. But this was no ordinary spider; this one seemed to have a vendetta.

I woke up to this text, “I walked into our bathroom and a large brown spider aggressively charged me. I ran back, grabbed the glass off my sink, and trapped it. It’s by the right bottom of the ironing board.”

I smiled as I read her message, because I knew killing this spider was now front and center on my to-do list for the day. I could picture the scene of Leigh-Ann, armed with a glass, bravely trapping the intruder. But in the chaos of the morning, I failed to deal with our eight-legged friend before leaving for an early meeting.

So, there it still sits on death row, trapped in the glass jar, able to see everything around it, including its freedom, yet unable to escape.
This little scene is a perfect illustration of how many of us view our finances. We think that if we just had a little more money, we could break free from our financial struggles. However, like the spider under the glass, more money often isn’t the answer to our problems. Instead, we need wisdom—God’s wisdom—to guide us.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” This passage teaches us the importance of relying on God’s wisdom and understanding, especially in our financial decisions.

This Sunday, our Finance Team leader, Jonathan Harrison will share a sermon entitled, “Wisdom for Finances” from Proverbs 3 along with other Proverbs to uncover God’s principles for managing money.

By aligning our financial practices with God’s wisdom, we can break free from the illusion that more money will solve our problems. True financial freedom comes from understanding and applying the principles found in God’s Word. Just like the spider under the glass, we may feel trapped by our circumstances, but God offers us a way out—through His wisdom and guidance.

There is so much more to share, I sure hope you can join us this Sunday as we delve deeper into “Wisdom for Finances” at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or Facebook at 9:15 am. Additionally, we are also publishing our sermons on Spotify.
Now…off to kill the spider :)…have a great evening,
Troy
