Walking with Taco's...

Today was the last day of high school for our second daughter, Sophia. We are extremely proud of her as a student, athlete, and most importantly, a follower of Jesus. She has attended Lincoln Prep since sixth grade and has plenty of memories. I asked her a few questions to move some high school highlights over into long-term memory.

Here are a few of her favorites:
Lunch: Walking tacos with Doritos
Subjects: English
Class: Sports Exercise Science
Memories: Good conversations with friends
Fun: Playing with friends in the gym

One favorite trip was to the state track meet. When it was over, each athlete got to order anything off the menu. She was deliriously tired and laughed until her stomach hurt.

Some of the most significant times were in the classroom. She has absolutely loved her teachers. I asked her why and she said, “They talk to us like we are humans, they really care about us and our feelings.”

When I asked her about her principal (pictured), she got a big smile on her face and said, “She is down to earth, she spends time with the students and really cares about us…and she gets into dance battles 😊…and wins!!!
When Sophie began her middle and high school experience, it was new territory. She didn’t know anyone besides her older sister, but now she has hundreds of friends. And most of her friends are either of a different race, come from a much different home life and neighborhood, and/or even like different foods…except for walking tacos with Doritos of course….everyone likes those 😊.

It’s not all been like a walk with a taco (dad joke alert)…there have been plenty of tears and exasperated moments…frustrations about where to go to college and maybe even some drama…Sophie’s time in school has not always been comfortable, but as she looks back over her time in High School, she will be the first to tell you it’s been a great experience.

This Sunday, Pastor Don is going to continue our sermon series from Galatians 2:11-21, “Deep Faith in the Gospel of Grace.” He will share about the Apostle Peter taking relational risk, and even making a poor choice so Paul had to confront him. There were plenty of ups and downs in the first century, but ultimately, the Apostles chose an uncomfortable but incredibly rewarding journey….and we can do the same.

I hope you have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you and hearing more on Sunday,
Troy
