Springs of New Life

Spring is a beautiful time to enjoy new life in creation as we see flowers springing up from the ground, buds on the trees, and babies being born. Good Dads Kansas City is also celebrating the new lives that God has transformed through the faithful service of Pastor Don, Pastor Lee, Arnie, and the other facilitators of the Good Dads KC trainings.

Don Lewis is the founder of Neighbors Who Care and Good Dads Kansas City. For over 30 years he has had a passion and dream for training and serving men and fathers. God has used Good Dads KC to spread the gospel, care for the fatherless, and provide practical training and skills that teach men how to lead a family and be good fathers. Pastors Don, Lee, and Arnie are so thankful to God for using them in this ministry to impact the community and the homes of many around Kansas City.

There are so many stories of God’s faithfulness and love, and through this blog, you will read just a few of the amazing transformation stories of men who have gone through the Good Dads training and are now implementing God’s truth in their lives.

Two men who graduated from the Good Dads KC training in January were recently released from Lansing Correctional Facility.  One of the facilitators for the program, Arnie, reached out and was able to connect with them and invite them to attend church at Hope Family Fellowship. They both decided to attend and one even had the opportunity to share his testimony during the service. They were both welcomed with transparency and open arms as the church began to connect and get to know them.

God is truly at work in the lives of these men. God uses faithful people for his service, but the inward transformation of the heart no man can see and the fruits of the Spirit that flow from one's life can only come from the work of the Spirit.

Miguel’s story is a testament to the abundance of life from the work of the Spirit. He is currently going through the Good Dads KC program at Lansing Correctional Facility and has had a very rough background in a cartel. He got involved in a cartel at only 14 years old and began forming his life around that scene. In his cartel, he was given the job of manning a machine gun in the back of a truck. The job was to drive around killing enemies of the cartel, but the standard was very high as they had strict guidelines for who was to be killed. If he killed someone innocent, he would be disgraced, but when he killed an enemy, he was celebrated. This position constantly kept him on guard and was life-threatening, seeing as he was both the hunter and the hunted. His enemies were in pursuit of his life too which resulted in little rest and no peace in his life.

Now he is in the Good Dads KC program and has enthusiastically expressed to the facilitators that for the first time in his life he has experienced peace, shalom.

Carl is another person in the training at Lansing Correctional Facility who has not had a good example of a loving family. At eight months old, Carl’s mom, who was an addict, abandoned him and his older brother by locking them in their trailer with no food or water. Carl’s uncle found the boys and kicked down the door to save them. He adopted the two brothers and raised them like they were his own. Understandably so, Carl has struggled his whole life with the fear of abandonment because the two people who should have devoted their lives to loving, providing, and teaching him were the ones who left him in such a vulnerable and dangerous state. Consequently, he has been in and out of prison and rehab and has never felt worthy or equipped to have a family. However, God has been at work in his heart rebuilding and restoring him and he is learning that God is the only one who will never abandon or fail him. He has a new perspective and joy which has given him a desire and confidence to lead a family one day when he gets out of prison.

We are seeing a movement of God, transforming the lives of these men.  It is a joy to share these stories of transformation and victory over sin and death. Please continue to partner with us in prayer for those who are leading Good Dads Kansas City and for those attending the training programs, that God will give them understanding and desire to serve Him.
