Giving the Gifts that Matter

In the spring of 2022, Brandon reached out to New Life CityChurch. At the time, he was working to support two baby girls (shown below) and his wife who suffers from MS which hinders her ability to work. This left him as their family’s sole provider, making it difficult to make ends meet. They had a place to live but lacked everyday necessities such as furniture and clothing.

To help provide some of these things for them, we partnered with Flourish Furnishings to supply their home with all the furniture and housewares they needed. We also joined with Bailee’s Closet to contribute clothing, including some items Brandon required for work. The family expressed so much gratitude to everyone involved, and they even sent thank you cards to our volunteers who helped deliver the furniture. Brandon’s wife told him that the help they received is a blessing from God. This, and his own gratitude, has led Brandon, a self-proclaimed Atheist, to avow his interest in learning more about God and who He is.
Brandon’s family recently asked for a couple more items, including toy food items for their girls’ play kitchen and a kitchen nook for their home to keep their girls safe (as they currently have a glass table that is not baby-proofed). For Christmas, we will be partnering with different groups of donors that are members or friends of New Life CityChurch who want to help bring Christmas to a family in need. Through this effort, we are hoping to find a group that wants to “adopt” Brandon and his family to fill these remaining needs and bless the family with gifts, a meal, and decorations, if possible.

As we reflect on this Christmas season...

Oftentimes, dads think that giving expensive gifts to their kids is what they need to do to be considered good fathers. However, what their children really need is simply their presence. God gives us the gift of salvation and offers it freely to all. Neighbors Who Care and Good Dads Kansas City are working together to show these fathers that the best gifts they can give their children are their time, energy, and attention.
Neighbors Who Care and Good Dads KC partner together to help families heal from all sides – by pouring into dads to help them take care of their families and respond to the immediate, much-felt needs of their struggling families.
We will be continuing the relationship with Brandon and his family to encourage them to join us at church for Sunday services and our Good Dads KC and financial trainings.

“Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”

Romans 12: 9 -12
