GOOOAAAAALLL...

On Tuesday, the US Men’s National Soccer team defeated Iran 1-0. If you didn’t get a chance to watch it, the guys played really well and deserved the win.
If they had only tied or lost that match, they would not have advanced into the final tournament of 16. This made the game incredibly tense.

We had the game on at church and I was in the kitchen towards the end of the first half when shouts of victory wafted down to me from both sides of the wall. I knew immediately we had scored…Christian Pulisic sacrificed his body and put it in the net.

After half-time, Iran came out much more aggressive and pushed us hard. We played well and even had a few more chances but as the time wound down, we were still only up 1-0.

It was getting nerve-wracking….

And then towards the very end of the game, Iran made a play in the box, one of the players was pushed down (ever so slightly) and they stopped the match to look at the review.

I had no idea who the referee was, however, he could influence the game by awarding a penalty kick…fortunately, it only took a short time and he re-started the match and did not award a penalty kick to Iran.

Why was I worried?

Not because the US had committed a foul, but because I couldn’t guarantee a just call…and this I think is a reason life can be difficult. We battle injustice…and this makes a difficult life even tougher.

This Sunday, we begin our advent series on Hope from Jeremiah 33:12-26. We will learn that even though we battle injustice in all parts of our lives, in the future we will experience the “Lord of Righteousness.”

He promises justice, salvation, and security. And we can be confident because the Lord of Righteousness has already been here on earth. As we celebrate the incarnation of Jesus, we also celebrate His death, burial, and resurrection which enthroned Jesus as King of Kings and Lord of Lords who will always rule with righteousness.

There is much more to cover in these verses, I sure HOPE to see you at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am, or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or Facebook at 9:15 am. Additionally, we are also publishing our sermons on Spotify.

See you all tomorrow,
Troy
