A few G's and a lot of faith....
Most families spent Halloween dressing up, collecting candy, or carving pumpkins. We decided to spend part of the day several thousand feet above Kansas City.
Sophia wanted to give Isaiah a flight lesson as his birthday gift, and since there were two extra seats, Ian and I graciously volunteered to tag along.
We took off and enjoyed a beautiful view of Kansas City before heading east. I quickly became the unofficial aerial photographer, snapping pictures of every athletic field I could find, followed by lakes, neighborhoods, and the beautiful trees changing colors. It was a fantastic flight, and everyone was having a great time.
And then Sophia decided to make things a little more interesting.
She wanted to show Isaiah how pilots practice stalls and execute steep turns. Suddenly, our peaceful sightseeing adventure became a lesson in aerodynamics, complete with some unexpected G-forces.
Apparently, someone in the backseat (clearing throat) wasn't quite prepared for this particular lesson. I'm not naming names, but the scream that came from behind the pilot was impressive enough to be heard over the engine. And the video definitely made it into the family group chat.
It's easy to trust the pilot when the airplane is doing exactly what we expect. It's a little different when the airplane suddenly does something we didn't anticipate. And the same can be true of our faith.
It’s easy to trust Jesus when life is going according to plan. But what happens when our circumstances take an unexpected turn? When prayers seem unanswered, or God doesn't do what we expected?
This Sunday, we continue our sermon series through Luke, and we’ll meet possibly the last person you might have guessed to struggle with his faith…John the Baptist. John had devoted his life to preparing the way for Jesus. Yet when he found himself in prison, hearing reports of Jesus extending grace while he continued suffering, John began asking whether Jesus really was the promised Messiah.
What I love about John is that he didn't ignore his questions. He brought them directly to Jesus. And Jesus responded by pointing him to the evidence of who He was and the promises God was fulfilling.
I hope you'll join us Sunday as we explore what it means to trust Jesus when life takes an unexpected turn. Our services are at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available)…OR a service in Spanish at 1:00 pm. Otherwise, you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am. Also, we would LOVE for you to follow us on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
And if Sophia ever offers you a sightseeing flight, I highly recommend it. Just make sure you ask what's included in the itinerary. See you Sunday!
