JOMO...

On Monday, our family did something that challenged each of us. No, we didn’t run sprints in 100-degree heat or try to get by a 300-pound lineman. We did something even more daring in this digital age: we put our phones on “Reclaim” and headed to St. Joseph for Kansas City Chiefs training camp.

The weather was hot, but not pass-out-on-the-bleachers hot. A breeze kicked in just in time to keep us all feeling alive while we watched men much bigger, faster, and sweatier than us go full throttle in full pads.

It was a blast.

We saw our favorite player, the boys collected a few autographs, and, best of all, no one was glued to a screen.

No notifications. No doom-scrolling. Just us, the team, and the joy of being fully present…along with a few thousand other fans ?.

My humble (and totally unbiased) opinion? The Chiefs look ready to start back towards another three-peat, and I believe in Patrick Mahomes like I believe in breakfast burritos.

We made plenty of memories, and we didn’t even miss our screens. At all. Instead, we gained something…simple joy.

Now, let’s be honest. We live in a culture built around FOMO: Fear of Missing Out. Miss a text, a game, a TikTok trend, and it feels like we’ve fallen behind. But this Sunday in our Unplugged series, we’re going to explore something better: JOMO: Joy of Missing Out.

Romans 12:1-2 calls us to something radically different from the way the world operates. Instead of conforming to the patterns of this age, we’re invited to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Why? So we can discern and delight in the will of God, what Paul describes as good, acceptable, and perfect.

When we’re constantly plugged in to the world, it’s hard to hear from heaven. But when we unplug, even for a moment, we create space to discover that what God wants for us is far better than what the world is trying to sell us.

This week’s message will dive into what it means to renew your mind, delight in God’s will, and embrace the kind of joy that only comes when you’re not trying to be everywhere, know everything, or please everyone.
