Crises Averted...
Yesterday, a few of us pastors…Jeff, Anthony, Jordan, and I, along with the incredible Derek, had a “super fun” outing: moving our desks into the new offices ?. Sounds simple, right?
Of course not.
These desks were heavy and oddly shaped; it was hot outside, and navigating stairs and tight corners made it feel like a real-life game of Tetris in Hades.
The most precarious moment?
Getting the largest desk up the stairs and around a corner. We were literally a fraction of an inch from disaster. At one point, visions of hoisting it over the auditorium balcony danced through our heads. Thankfully, we found a way… though Jeff lost a shoe in the process.
A few tiny dings in the wall later, and mission accomplished. While it wasn’t a full-blown “crisis of desks,” we were definitely one stumble away.
That little adventure got me thinking about a topic for my weekly email, and faith when we’re in the middle of challenges that seem impossible. Which is exactly what we’ll be exploring in our new sermon series, “Faith in the fire: trusting God through crisis.”
This Sunday, Jordan Wilbanks will kick things off, preaching from Habakkuk 1:1–2:5. Habakkuk wrestled with questions we’ve all asked at one time or another: “Why does injustice prevail?” “Why does God seem silent when things go wrong?”
And yet, even in the tension, God calls us to trust Him. If you’ve faced or are facing times that feel overwhelming, confusing, or just plain unfair, this sermon is for you.
I sure hope you can join the new life family as we worship, reflect, and learn how to hold onto faith when life gets complicated, even if it involves stairs, heavy desks, or lost shoes.
