Thanks a Latte
Some weeks feel like a sitcom… and other weeks feel like a sitcom that forgot to hire writers ?. Our recent adventure with the Health Department definitely lands in that second category.
And that’s exactly what happened. Staff, volunteers, Eleos…everyone was diving in to help. People made calls, repaired, organized, and problem-solved. And today, after nine days, we had our follow-up inspection.
I hope to see you this Sunday with a piping hot cup of coffee or Latte ?, as we look at this powerful passage and ask how we can become people who stand firm.
As many of you know, Eleos Coffee has taken over running our New Life CityChurch coffee shop. As part of that transition, we needed an additional health inspection. No problem…we had just passed an inspection a few months ago and were certified “healthy” through 1/1/2026. Easy, right?
Wrong.
We had a brand-new inspector… with his trainer… and that turned out to be quite the combo. Despite our clean bill of health just months ago, our certification was rescinded, and we were handed a fresh list of things to fix.
But here’s what I loved about this situation: the way everyone responded.
In our leadership meetings, we use a phrase, “dive for the ball.” Like in a basketball game when the ball is loose on the floor, no one waits for someone else to make the play. Everyone hits the deck. Everyone hustles. Everyone owns the moment.
And that’s exactly what happened. Staff, volunteers, Eleos…everyone was diving in to help. People made calls, repaired, organized, and problem-solved. And today, after nine days, we had our follow-up inspection.
And we passed. Let’s GOOOOOOO!!!
When unexpected circumstances come at us, it’s tempting to panic or even get discouraged. But when people “dive for the ball,” the situation changes.
This Sunday, Pastor Anthony will be preaching from 2 Timothy 3:1–17, a passage written to remind Timothy and us to stay steady in a world that can feel unfair and unpredictable. We will discover that the Word of God equips us to stand firm in an unfaithful and failing world.
Just like our team rallied around a failed health inspection and worked hard to make things right, God calls us to look to the Scriptures when life gets messy.
Paul wrote that “all Scripture… equips us for every good work,” meaning God gives us exactly what we need to stay faithful no matter what comes our way.
I hope to see you this Sunday with a piping hot cup of coffee or Latte ?, as we look at this powerful passage and ask how we can become people who stand firm.
