Sticky notes & worship...
This week, as I was moving some books around into my new office, I found something that made me stop and smile, a tiny sticky note from our oldest daughter, Alexa.
It says: “I love you, Daddy! ? I hope you have a great day. Miss you. Love, Alexa.”
I laughed, mostly because I think she wrote it when she was in kindergarten… and also because it’s incredible how some little note she probably stuck on my desk nearly two decades ago still makes my day.
Today, Alexa is all grown up, engaged, in med school, and she just passed an insanely difficult neurology class this week.
Leigh-Ann and I are beyond proud!
She works so hard because she wants to save lives and make a difference. And yet, somehow, that tiny note reminding me that she loves me, misses me, and hopes I have a great day hits me harder than any A+ on a test ever could. Don’t get me wrong, we were all praying like crazy for her to pass the test …and that means a lot too?.
In the same way, when it comes to our worship, we often treat it like it has to be big, flashy, or even Instagram-worthy. But sometimes worship is as simple as a sticky note: a small, honest, heartfelt expression of love and devotion. Sometimes it’s as simple as saying to God, “I love You. I miss you. I want to be with You.”
This Sunday, we finish our sermon series in Habakkuk, and the focus will be on Habakkuk 3:1–19. The big idea? The best time to worship God is always now. Habakkuk reminds us that worship doesn’t need to wait for perfect circumstances, massive accomplishments, or even an earth-shattering miracle. Worship can be quiet. Worship can be small. Worship can be a sticky note.
So, whether you’re celebrating a huge win, surviving a brutal week, or just trying to make it through Monday without hitting “Reply All” on an email you regret, there’s never a wrong time to worship. Sometimes it’s the little moments, the tiny offerings, that are the most powerful.
I hope to see you Sunday to see what else Habakkuk has to teach us about worshiping God in the middle of fear, loss, and life’s messiness. Services are at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am. Troy
