When devices become vices...
We just got back from a few refreshing days up north at Lake Amelia in Minnesota with the whole crew, and let me tell you, it was rejuvenating.
We fished, skied, tubed, and ate like we were preparing for winter (which we weren’t). We played volleyball in a downpour because… well, we are Campbells, and stopping without declaring a winner isn’t in our DNA. We even managed to ignite a roaring fire without burning down the cabin, which I consider a win.
Most importantly… we unplugged…mostly. (Full disclosure: I did check my texts and emails a few times. Grace abounds.)
But what stood out the most wasn’t the fishing or boating or mountains of food, it was the conversations overlooking the lake. It was the laughter echoing through the cabin. It was sharing devotions and singing ?, telling stories and reminiscing.
In short, it was authentic life. Not the kind that comes from a screen, but the kind Jesus invites us into.
That leads me to our new sermon series starting this Sunday: “Unplugged: Reclaiming an Abundant Life in a Digital World.” Over the next four weeks, we’ll be talking about what it looks like to step away from the constant hum of digital noise and re-center our lives on what really matters.
This Sunday, we’ll kick it off with a look at John 10:10, where Jesus says:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
What if one of the greatest thieves in our lives today… fits in our pockets, lights up with apps, and quietly steals our peace one notification at a time?
I’m inviting each of us to consider taking a digital fast…not forever, but for a season, to recalibrate our souls, reconnect with God and each other, and rediscover the way life is meant to be.
We are meeting at 1717 McGee…AND…the coffee shop will be open! There will be free drip coffee like always, but now you can also upgrade to a fancy hot beverage. Services are at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am. Also, we would LOVE for you to follow us on Socials ?: Facebook, YouTube, Instagram. (Until our digital fast, of course ?)
See you Sunday!
