There's more to your story...

When the weather is nice, I like to start my mornings on our front porch spending time with the Lord.

Even though we live in the city, our porch has become something of a wildlife and insect sanctuary. This morning I saw a hummingbird, and although it moved faster than my phone camera could handle, I did get a picture of a rabbit and squirrel eating apples, along with several birds enjoying the same breakfast buffet.

And then there was Gratzi, sitting beside me, helping me eat my egg sandwich. She loves being outside with me, and I am especially proud that she stays close without a leash, even when people and dogs walk by. Although, if I'm honest, the egg sandwich may have clinched her loyalty.

As I watched all of this, I was reminded how easy it is to miss what is happening right in front of us.

This is what we discover in our text for Sunday from Ruth 2:8–23. Ruth thinks she is simply going to a field to gather enough grain to feed herself and Naomi. Instead, she encounters Boaz, a man whose grace disrupts the cultural norms around her. He sees a vulnerable foreign widow and offers her protection and extraordinary generosity.

Then Ruth comes home carrying far more than she expected, and Naomi begins to realize that God's kindness has not abandoned her. What looks like a good day in a barley field is actually part of a much bigger story.

And Ruth doesn't know the whole story. Neither does Naomi. But God does. And we will conclude that God is more than enough. His kindness outruns our perspective, and His providence invites us to participate in what He is doing.

These verses are further affirmation that God is already working around us in ways we don't recognize. We just need to slow down long enough to notice. Maybe there is more happening on your front porch…and in your life…than you realize.

I look forward to sharing more with you on Sunday at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available)…OR a service in Spanish at 1:00 pm. Otherwise, you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am. Also, we would LOVE for you to follow us on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram
