New Life Sunday - Secret Weapon

This weekend, Dallas and I headed out of town for a soccer tournament. We were looking forward to getting some sunshine and playing outdoors. Even though we were hoping for warmer weather, it was 32 degrees at kickoff. Thankfully, as the morning went on, the sun came out, and it eventually warmed up.

Now, because we flew on a budget airline that charges you for every little thing—including luggage—we packed light. Everything we needed for the trip had to fit into a backpack. And instead of bringing a bulky winter jacket, I managed to sneak in a secret weapon: a battery-powered heated vest.

Let me tell you, that vest saved me…well, and coffee…and Jesus of course ?. I wore the vest under my sweatshirt, and as long as it was turned on, I was toasty. However, it would shut off every so often, and I’d start to feel the cold creeping in. But all I had to do was hit the power button, and I was warm again in no time. Other parents were wearing big winter jackets and all I had on was a sweatshirt…but the vest underneath made all the difference.

And you know what? Prayer is a lot like that heated vest. As Christians, we have this incredible resource of prayer, this direct line to God that’s always available to us. No one can see whether we’re praying or not—it’s something hidden, something internal—but the effects are absolutely felt. When we pray, our hearts stay warm, and our lives are transformed in ways we may not even fully realize.

This Sunday, Pastor Anthony will be preaching from 1 Timothy 2:1-7 about prayer. His big idea is this: A praying church is a healthy church. He’ll be sharing plenty of practical ways we can grow in our prayer lives, whether prayer feels like second nature or something we’re still figuring out.

I sure hope you can attend this Sunday at our temporary location at The Harlow Event Space, 1525 Grand Ave., Kansas City, MO. Our services are still at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available), or you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and Subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am.

Prayer is a resource we often take for granted, but it’s a powerful gift. Let’s tap into it together and see how God uses it to strengthen us, our church, and the world around us. Have a great evening,

Troy
