Omaha and back again...
This week, Ian (our youngest son) and I took a quick road trip to Omaha, Nebraska, for some good old-fashioned father-son bonding. We had a blast!
We went to talk about what it means to grow into a man. Topics like choosing good friends, resisting peer pressure, and living to please Jesus in all our choices. We listened to some great talks, explored the city, discovered a concert in the park, peeked into a few colleges, and then topped it all off with a morning at the Omaha Zoo before heading home.
Somewhere between Cane’s Chicken and everything from sharks to bats to giraffes, I realized that while trips are great, there’s something even better about coming home.
It’s where we live out what we’ve learned.
This Sunday, that’s exactly where we find ourselves as a church family. We’ve been on our own “trip” of sorts…planning, remodeling, painting, updating. And now we’re home in our freshly remodeled space.
Like Solomon dedicating the temple in 2 Chronicles 6–7, this is a moment to re-center, re-focus, and re-dedicate our hearts and our building for God’s glory.
The big idea for Sunday is simple: Now that we are home in our new space, we can use this building to point people to Jesus.
So, come ready to celebrate God’s faithfulness, enjoy a video showing where we’ve come, and, yes, have unlimited coffee and pancakes. Because even Solomon would have agreed that a good celebration needs good food.
I sure hope to see you at 1717 McGee…AND…the coffee shop is open! There will be free drip coffee like always, but now you can also upgrade to a fancy beverage. See you Sunday,
Troy
