But before we get there, earlier this week, the boys and I made a highly-focused visit to Going, Going, Gone, the clearance store for Dick’s Sporting Goods. But let’s be honest, clearance shopping is always a little bit of a gamble. You hope for something good… but you’re never sure until you start digging through the racks. We had exactly one hour while Ian was at soccer practice, so the moment we walked through those doors, it was as if someone fired a starter pistol.

We were clocked in for work!

We calmly sifted through shirts, pants, sweatshirts, shoes, and of course quarter-zips. The first name-brand shirt under $5 was like an energy drink…we went to get a cart and start loading. Almost all of our deals were marked 75% off the clearance price. Let’s Goooo!

We were spending our Christmas money, and I’d like to think we stewarded it exceptionally well. By the time we walked out:

-Dallas scored $170 worth of gear for $21.27

-Isaiah snagged $170 worth for $25.39

-I walked out with $551 worth for $65.29 (and no, it wasn’t all for me… though the quarter-zip is ready for church on Sunday)

Our grand total? $111.95 spent for $891 worth of value. Not bad for a few dudes.

We were hoping for something good because we’d had good experiences there before… but we still weren’t sure until we got inside and started looking.

That’s clearance shopping.

That’s life sometimes.

But that is not our faith.

When it comes to Jesus, we don’t walk in hoping things might turn out okay. We don’t cross our fingers and wish for the best. We have full confidence in our King.

Not just because of past experiences, though, He’s been faithful every step of the way. But because He Himself is the greatest. His character is unchanging. His power is unlimited. His resources are infinite. And His heart for His people is better than anything we could imagine.

It’s never wishful thinking with Jesus. He is our Invincible King, and I can’t wait for us to hear more about Him this Sunday.
