Enduring...

Happy Friday! After fixing a car recently, my mind went back to 1986, when I bought my very first car: a 1986 Mazda 323 Sedan. I paid $600 cash, and when I drove it home, it felt like a dream…a wobbly dream, but a dream nonetheless ?.

Now, it wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t exactly a luxury ride. No AC, no power windows, no power steering. Just a manual transmission, crank windows, a few nicks in the paint, stains in the carpet…maybe even a cigarette burn or two. But this car had spirit, and it ran like the wind.

I drove that Mazda to and from college for years, had a few fun races (which I won most of them, of course ?), and even warped the head gasket by running it with a broken belt until it was way too hot. Somehow, it was still repairable. Still dependable. Still going strong.

Most importantly, I drove this to win over Leigh-Ann….she loved me for my car J/K ? ?!

In an age when computers run everything, I sometimes long for that kind of simplicity…though, truth be told, I also like having AC and a good stereo!

Here’s the thing: that Mazda is a lot like our faith. It’s not perfect. It gets bumps and bruises along the way. Sometimes it overheats. But with care, reliance on the right source of power, and persistence, it keeps going, mile after mile.

And that’s exactly what Paul calls Timothy and calls us to in 2 Timothy 2:1–13. We need a faith that endures.

By the end, my hope is you’ll leave encouraged and challenged, ready to run your faith with the never-die mentality of my old Mazda, gritty, dependable, and moving forward no matter what.
