Shocking...
Yesterday, Gary and I noticed a light was out in the church offices. Now, there's something in me that just doesn't like it when things aren't working. So naturally, I decided we should take a few minutes and fix it.
Famous last words.
What seemed like a simple project quickly turned into one of those adventures where you begin questioning the intelligence of whoever designed the fixture in the first place. We took things apart, studied the wiring, wondered often about the engineer's qualifications, and somehow managed to get shocked only once!
As always, Gary was there helping and shedding light on the situation since we had to shut off the electricity. After spending much more time than either of us anticipated, we finally got everything put back together.
The good news? We survived!
The bad news? We still need a new lightbulb.
I suppose there's a certain irony in spending so much time trying to fix something only to discover that we still hadn't solved the problem.
But isn't that life?
We work hard, make plans, gather resources, and do everything within our power to make things work. And most of the time, that's a good thing. But eventually, we encounter situations that remind us just how limited our abilities really are.
This Sunday, we'll be studying Luke 7:1–17, where we encounter two people facing circumstances they simply cannot fix. One is a powerful military officer whose servant is dying. He has influence, authority, and resources, but none of those can save someone he loves. The other is a grieving widow who has lost her only son. She has almost nothing left to depend upon.
Yet both encounter Jesus, who reveals his extraordinary grace and compassion. And I've been challenged with the truth that confidence in Jesus doesn't mean I have to know how to fix everything; it means I can trust the One who is greater than anything I face.
I'm looking forward to worshiping with you Sunday at 8:00, 9:15 (Full KidCity available), or 10:45 am (Full KidCity available)…OR a service in Spanish at 1:00 pm. Otherwise, you can watch the Livestream on YouTube (Like and subscribe) or on our New Life website at 9:15 am. Also, we would LOVE for you to follow us on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
And if anyone happens to have a spare lightbulb and a little electrical expertise, Gary and I might be interested!
See you Sunday!
