Can you find a new life at New Life CityChurch?
The short answer is no. If you’re counting on a church to change your life, you’re going to be disappointed.
That’s the thing about religion. It’s all about people looking for God – and you’ve probably noticed, people have plenty of ideas about how that’s done. I’m not quite sure how we’ve concluded that looking for God was a good idea in the first place, because the Bible, God’s personal message to man, tells the story of God looking for us.1
The Bible tells us that God was completely pleased with His creation.2 Since God made people in the first place, He knew that we would be perfectly joyful and content living in harmony with Him. However, in His wisdom, He knew that a forced relationship is no relationship at all. So He also created people with self-determination. It wasn’t long, in fact, just 3 chapters into the Bible, until Adam and Eve used that self-determination to try life without God.3 Ever since that first sinful choice, the rest of us have made identical sinful choices.4
A choice to try life without God.
Some of us have made seemingly catastrophic, life-destroying choices and some of us have adopted more socially-acceptable behaviors such as being selfish or jealous, but each of us has removed God from his rightful place as the boss of our life. As God promised, these willful choices separated us from Him.5
From that point forward, mankind has made billions of futile attempts to find God. But the good news is that God made one successful attempt to find man. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to bring mankind back to God.6
Since God is perfectly just, there had to be a penalty for each person’s sinful choice of living life without God. So, God poured the penalty for each person’s sinful choices on His Son Jesus.7 Jesus, who never sinned, bore the penalty for my sinful choices and for your sinful choices when he died on the cross.8 After He bore the penalty for sin, he yielded up his physical life. But to prove that he had paid the price for sin, Jesus rose from the dead three days after his death.9
So how can you experience New Life?
God offers forgiveness to anyone who gives up “trying to find God” – no more trusting church attendance, baptism, communion, giving money, self-improvement or good works. The Bible calls this “repentance”.10 God then offers new life to everyone who trusts only the work that God did when He came to find man when Jesus died on the cross. The Bible calls this “faith”.11
Since the death and resurrection of Jesus, many people who have heard the message of the Bible have expressed their faith in prayer. If you’re deciding right now to stop trusting your own efforts to find God and putting your faith in Jesus Christ, you might want to express your newfound relationship with God in this prayer–
Dear God, I know my sinful choices have separated You and me. I know there’s nothing I can do to repair this relationship by my own efforts. I believe you came looking for me by sending your Son Jesus to earth. I believe He died on the cross for me, bearing the penalty for my sinful choices. I stop trusting my own efforts and now trust only in the work of Jesus on the cross. Thank you for sending Him and thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me a new life. Amen.
