Whose card do you have?

Recently our boys have become fascinated with old baseball, football and basketball cards.

Similarly while growing up, I can remember spending hours organizing and reading trading cards…reading the back of the card and looking to see if it was a “rookie card.”

Several months ago, I gave them my old cards. And now recently, “Papa” heard they love to look at cards and found some in his garage. He gave them to the boys and told them to split them up.

This may be hard to believe, but they spent almost the entire trip home from Florida…18 hours in the car…organizing and then trading cards.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them talk in the back seat….every few minutes they would ask, “Was George Brett or Steve Montgomery or Bert Blyleven or name a player from the 70’s to 90’s good?”

If I recognized the player, I would give my opinion and a story of what it was like to watch that particular player while I was growing up. For example….Ozzie Smith used to do back flips before each inning….and I knew this first hand because the Twins beat the Cardinals in the 1987 World Series…:).

Last week, after travelling for twelve hours, we arrived at our hotel and the boys couldn’t wait to get to our room and look at the cards together with me…I think they wanted to see who ended up with the best cards.

So we sat on the bed together looking at the cards….and then I noticed the golden card…although it’s only worth $.34….when I told the boys the name on the card…they went absolutely ballistic.

Isaiah is the proud owner of a 1994 “Pat Mahomes” baseball card.

Of course, the value of this trading card is not monetary, nor is it even Pat Mahomes Sr….the boys love the card because it is a connection to, “The Pat Mahomes”, quarterback of the KC Chiefs.

Go Chiefs!

Chances are, in 25 years, when they have kids looking at trading cards, they won’t get excited about a Pat Mahomes Sr. baseball card or a Pat Mahomes Jr. football card…. there will be someone else.

“To everything there is a season….”

This Sunday, Pastor Dave will share a sermon on this topic from Ecclesiastes entitled, “Navigating Delightful and Disheartening Seasons from Ecclesiastes 3:1-15. This six-week sermon series, “Meaningful life” is meant to provide perspective and wisdom for you as you journey through life.

I am really looking forward to seeing many of you and hearing much more from Ecclesiastes. If you are unable to attend in person, you are welcome to check out the Live Stream HERE.

Also, I’m sure Pat Mahomes Jr. would appreciate your prayers for the big game after church :).
