On Thursday, I was able to take a tour of Arrowhead stadium with Dallas and his 5th grade class. We began with a learning session about Lamar Hunt…which one of his classmates kept confusing with Lamar Jackson :).
Lamar Hunt was passionate about all things sports. He founded the American Football League, Kansas City Chiefs and even named the Super Bowl. He also loved soccer and is considered the founder of Major League Soccer and the Kansas City Wizards.
While on the tour, it quickly became obvious Lamar Hunt is revered anywhere near Arrowhead Stadium. He is known for his kindness and service to everyone including the fans, players, coaches and support staff.
Lamar Hunt left a culture of humility and respect for others. His obituary says this,
“Mr. Hunt was a devoted Christian, a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed a vibrant life filled with many dear friends. He was a man of extraordinary vision, faith and integrity, whose deep sense of humility was one of his most unwavering and most endearing traits.”
It is hardly a coincidence a man with such deep faith in Jesus, lived a life of such selfless service to others. Of course, the character and accomplishments of Lamar Hunt pale in comparison to the life of Jesus.
As we prepare for Advent, we will explore the effect of Jesus and His teaching on the First Century world. Not simply WHY Jesus came, but what He did while walking on earth. I look forward to sharing the foundation for Christmas this Sunday from Philippians 2:3-8 and then looking at a snapshot from the life of Jesus from Mark 8:1-10.
I hope to see you at 9:00 or 10:45am. If you cannot attend in person, you can watch the Livestream HERE.
In the meantime, there is plenty of inspiration coming out of Arrowhead and even more as we study the life of Jesus.
