Talk about a surprise!
In 1989, an unnamed financial analyst from Philadelphia went shopping at a flea market in Adamstown, PA. He found a painting he described as, “a dismal dark country scene with a signature he could not make out.” However, he liked the frame and decided to buy it for $4.
What he didn’t know at the time, was behind the dark painting, was “an unspeakable fresh copy” of the Declaration of Independence. One of only 24 known copies.
A few years later, this copy of the Declaration of Independence sold at an auction for more than $2.4 Million.
Can you imagine what you would do if you found something similar?
If it were me, I am pretty sure I would do my best to suppress my excitement while I verified with others who are professionals. Once I was sure I was holding a treasure, I would tell my wife and kids and other close family members and friends.
It would be amazing…
This Sunday, I am excited to share two short stories told by Jesus in Matthew 13:44-46 also about the discovery of hidden treasure.
What we will discover about the treasure is that it is the everyday reign of Jesus in our lives. His rule is of more value than anything we could ever attain in this life…including the Declaration of Independence.
I really hope to see you Sunday as we continue our sermon series, “Jesus is our treasure.” If you are unable to attend in person, you can watch it live at 10:45am HERE.
Either way, I hope you can join with your New Life family as we worship and learn more about Jesus.
