Sugar Daddy

A few years ago, we were sitting around the dinner table with our kids and some friends talking about the future.

Alexa, our oldest daughter shared about her dreams to go to college and study pre-med and hopefully someday become a doctor.

After a fairly lengthy and detailed description of her future plans, someone shifted the conversation over to our second born daughter Sophia.

“Sophie, what do you want to be when you grow up?”

Without skipping a beat, Sophie jokingly blurted out, “I just want to marry a sugar daddy.”

We all about died laughing…the kind of laugh where people are choking and water is spewing out noses.
Since then, any time the conversation about our kids future comes up, we remind Sophie of her desire to marry a “sugar daddy.”

I enjoy adding fuel to the fire, two of my favorite prospects for her are Trevor Lawrence (Clemson Quarterback who won National Championship) and Kyler Murray (First Overall Pick of NFL Draft).

From the perspective of a 14-year-old girl, finding a guy who is a pro-athlete and a Christian would make the rest of her life quite plush.

And of course, I’m always up for free tickets :).

Although, we laugh about the concept of finding a “sugar daddy” I think it may be more popular than we want to admit…. especially when it comes to following Jesus.

This Sunday, we continue our sermon series entitled, “Discovering God” from the Gospel of John. I look forward to preaching from John 6:22-34 about a dialogue between Jesus and some of the crowd who followed Him over to Capernaum.

The crowd had recently experienced the feeding of the 5,000 and many of their friends and relatives were being healed of sicknesses.

Jesus called them out and said, “you are seeking me because you ate your fill of the loaves.”However, Jesus went on to teach that He was sent from God and they were to believe in Him not for what they could get out of Him but rather to experience eternal life.

I look forward to sharing much more on Sunday. I sure hope to see you at 9:00 or 10:45am. If you missed the sermon last Sunday, or would like a quick review, you can catch that on our New Life YouTube Chanel.
